Nutrition surveillance and monitoring
1987
Shipley-Moses, E. | Dodds, J.M.
The president of the Society for Nutrition Education (SNE) and the chairman of SNE's Public Policy Advisory Committee present SNE's perspective on nutrition monitoring. They state that: national nutrition monitoring data allow for the examination of the linkages among food consumption, nutritional status, and health status. Data enable health and nutrition professionals to develop and monitor the effects of nutrition and health policies and program; data on the nutrition status of high-risk populations allow federal, state, and local health and nutrition programs to more effectively direct their efforts toward specific target groups. This information serves as the basis for food safety to the food industry in developing new food products and in planning nutrition research and education policies and programs. The authors also discuss the National Nutrition Monitoring and Related Research Act of 1986 (H.R. 2436).
