Rapeseeds (Brassica napus L.) are major source of edible oil-consumed in daily life. However, the high erucic acid content in some rapeseeds is harmful to the human health. So it is essential to explore a convenient and rapid method to identify which content of erucic acid is less than 5 %. Since the derivation procedure of traditional identification method (gas chromatography) is cumbersome, it consumes much time in analysis. In this work, a rapid method based on nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technology is developed. Firstly, ¹H NMR spectra of rapeseeds extract were collected, and then ¹H NMR data were analyzed by hierarchical cluster analysis and t test. The results indicated that statistically significant differences (p < 0.05) were found between high-erucic-acid and low-erucic-acid groups. Therefore, the new method can effectively distinguish LEAR from high-erucic-acid rapeseed with convenient sample pretreatment and data acquisition, which offer great potential for LEAR screening.
