Chemical constituents of the essential oil of Ajuga chamaepitys growing in Iran

The essential oil of Ajuga chamaepitys (L.) Schreb. (Lamiaceae), was prepared by hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Twenty-five compounds were identified in the oil, which the monoterpene hydrocarbons (65.6%) predominated with alpha-pinene (16.1%) and beta-pinene (34.3%) being major. The sesquiterpene fraction accounted for a further 18.0% of the oil of which germacrene D (5.6%) was the major component.
