Changing concepts of healthy diets
1979
Finch, Irene
Nutritionists in the United Kingdom agree that the national diet contains too much fat and sugar. A total return to the traditional diet of potatoes, pulses, lightly processed cereals, vegetables, and fruits is impractical in our current society. A neo-traditional diet, which would include some modern advantages, is probably the most practical compromise. Suggested dietary changes, which would contribute to better nutrition and better overall national health, include increased fiber content, lowered fat consumption, sharply reduced sugar consumption, increased cereal consumption, a careful choice of prepared foods, and fewer snack foods. Nationwide nutrition education will be a major factor in implementing these changes.
