Cytochemical and biochemical study of the cellulose of Sium latifolium leaves under the influence of a water deficit
2009
Nedukha, O. M.
The cellulose distribution in the epidermal and mesophyll cells of Sium latifolium leaves at the flowering and seedling phases is studied with the use of confocal laser scanning microscopy. Pascal is used to determine that the relative content of cellulose in cell walls is dependent on the leaf tissue type, the plant ontogenesis phase, and the growing conditions. It is revealed through the use of biochemical techniques that a moderate water deficit decreases the amorphous cellulose content and increases the crystalline cellulose content during plant growth.
