Synopsis: Field experiments were initiated in 1960 in the states of Georgia, South Carolina, Iowa and Minnesota to evaluate methods of reducing uptake of Sr90 fallout by crops. Significant reductions in Sr80 content in corn and soybean grain were obtained by deep placement but not by irrigation. Calcium treatments reduced Sr90 in both grains in Georgia, and potassium reduced Sr90 in corn grain in Minnesota. The maximum reduction observed was about 50%.
