Awareness of Rural Women Regarding Infant Feeding Practices

The data pertaining to awareness, knowledge on weaning and feeding practices of 60 rural women were assessed through self-structured, open-ended interview schedule before and after training. In rural area, weaning food was found to be not given at proper age of infants and when introduced, it included only cereals and pulses, once or twice a day. After training, almost all of them (100 %) acknowledged the need of weaning food for the normal growth and development of infants. Negligible per cent (1.66%) of the respondents provided cereals + pulses + vegetables as weaning mix to infants before attending training, on the other hand 40 per cent of them started following this weaning food, with significant difference, after attending training. However, majority of rural nursing mothers (86.66%) realized the importance of weaning foods for optimum growth and development of infants.
