Diet needs of patients referred to home health
1985
Gaffney, Joan T. | Singer, Gloria R.
Extract: Chart reviews document dietary needs of 812 home health care patients. Factors studied were doctors' diet orders, number of restrictions, diagnoses, height/weight, and fee source. The registered dietitians (R.D.s) used diagnoses and height/weight to recommend appropriate diets. Comparisons between the physicians' orders and the R.D.s' recommendations showed that physicians ordered therapeutic diets for 52% of patients, whereas R.D.s recommended therapeutic diets for 77%. In addition, the patients might have benefited from a different diet. (Author)
