Seed protection and promotions of seedling emergence by the plant growth beneficial Pseudomonas strains 7NSK2 and ANP15
1991
Hofte, M. | Boelens, J. | Verstraete, W.
The plant growth-promoting strains Pseudomonas aeruginosa 7NSK2 and P. fluorescens ANP15 were found to protect maize seeds from cold shock damage. These strains significantly increased the germination of maize seeds, which had been subjected to cold for 10 days, by 30-60%. Plants, originating from Pseudomonas-inoculated maize seeds which had been subjected to a cold period, had a significantly higher dry matter content than control plants (7-10%). The P. fluorescens strain ANP15 was able to increase the germination of seeds which were 2 yr old to the level of germination of 1 yr old seeds. Pyoverdin production did not seem to be involved in the promotion of seedling emergence,
