Quantitative Bestimmung von organischen Bioziden in Holzschutzmittelformulierungen mittels Hochdruckflüssigkeitschromatographie | Analysis of the quantity of biocides in wood preservative formulations using high performance liquid chromatography
2012
Hill, Rainer
Wood preservatives approved by the German building authorities need to undergo internal and external quality assessments for certification purposes. One of these checks involves monitoring whether their biocidal agent content equates to the concentration in the approved formulation. The high performance liquid chromatography process, as presented, can be used in conjunction with a diode array detector to quantify a wide range of organic fungicides and insecticides both in water-based and solvent-based wood preservative matrices, thereby obviating the need for any further analyses. The aspects of the process which vary depending on the matrix are the sample solvent, the analytical wavelengths and the elution gradients. It is also possible, in the course of one investigation, to analyse combinations of active agents which have a difference of two orders of magnitude in their concentration ranges. By using a new type of analytical separating columns filled with a partially porous stationary phase, it is possible to reduce the duration of the analyses and the consumption of eluents by 30–50% without any loss of separating and loading capacity, thus significantly improving the cost efficiency of the analyses.
