The breeding of Asian buffalo in Europe is typical especially for Italy (397 thousand heads), where they are traditionally bred for milk production for the production of mozzarella cheese. However, buffalo breeding can also be found in other European countries such as Romania (10 thousand heads), Bulgaria (9 thousand heads) and Germany (2 thousand heads), and to a lesser extent buffalo is also bred in other European countries. In the Czech Republic, buffalo breeding is still in its infancy (30 heads), but the production of buffalo milk and meat already serves to enrich the domestic market with several products that are a unique and nutritionally valuable option for diversifying the diet of the Czech population.
