Valorisation des co-produits de la graine de coton exempte de glandes à gossypol en production de poulets au Sénégal | Valorization of glandless cottonseed by-products on broilers production in Senegal

فرنسي. Résumé:Cette étude évalue les effets des co-produits de la graine de coton avec ou sans glandes à gossypol (glanded et glandless) en production de poulets de chair au Sénégal. L’ensemble des essais a été conduits au niveau de la station expérimentale de l’ENSA de l’Université de Thiès (Sénégal). Les analyses chimiques ont, pour la plupart, été réalisées au niveau du service nutrition de la faculté de médecine vétérinaire et de Gembloux Agro-Biotech de l’Université de Liège (Belgique).La première partie de ce travail est relative à la valeur nutritive des co-produits de la graine de coton et de leur importance en production de poulets. Elle fait le point sur les différents traitements existants et qui ont une incidence sur la composition chimique des tourteaux obtenus après trituration. Les facteurs anti-nutritionnels tels que le gossypol ont également été décrits ainsi que leurs effets sur la volaille. Au final, une synthèse des divers procédés de détoxification du gossypol a été réalisée et les limites d’incorporations des co-produits de la graine de coton dans les aliments pour poulets ont été définies.La deuxième partie du travail porte sur l’utilisation du coton conventionnel pour évaluer ses effets sur les paramètres zootechniques en productions de poulets. La fève de coton obtenue après décorticage partiel au moulin à mil et tamisage du produit obtenu a été utilisée. Cette fève présente l’avantage, par rapport aux tourteaux de coton, d’être moins riche en constituant pariétaux mais aussi d’avoir une qualité nutritive proche de l’amande des graines de coton. Son incorporation dans les rations expérimentales en remplacement du tourteau d’arachide à des proportions de 25, 50 et 75% s’est traduite par une forte diminution des performances pondérales, de l’ingestion, de l’efficience alimentaire et de la digestibilité des nutriments. La plus faible incorporation lors de cet essai s’est traduite par une réduction d’au moins de la moitié du poids des animaux. Cette tendance s’est maintenue à tous les niveaux de substitution avec, comme corollaire, une forte augmentation de la mortalité après 6 semaines d’élevage au niveau du groupe ayant reçu la ration comportant 75% de substitution du tourteau d’arachide. L’effet négatif du gossypol sur l’appétibilité des aliments, qui serait à l’origine des faibles poids des poulets, ainsi que la toxicité du composé pour ces animaux ont ainsi été mis en évidence. Cette étude a permis de montrer que les co-produits de graines de coton conventionnel doivent être exclus en alimentation de poulets de chair. Toutefois, ils pourraient constituer une alternative en aviculture traditionnelle où la croissance des animaux est très lente du fait de la rareté des ressources alimentaires et de la disponibilité de cette ressource dans les zones cotonnières des pays en développement. En effet, des niveaux d’incorporation pouvant atteindre 10% dans les aliments pour des poulets en élevage de longue durée ont ainsi été déterminés. La troisième partie du travail décrit deux essais d’utilisation de fèves issues de variétés de graines de coton exempt de glandes à gossypol (« glandless ») en remplacement du tourteau d’arachide. Dans un premier temps, un dispositif similaire à celui du coton conventionnel a été appliqué avec des niveaux de substitution de 0, 25 50 et 75%. Contrairement à ce qui a été observé avec la fève de coton gossypolée, une augmentation des performances pondérales, consécutive au meilleur niveau d’ingestion, a été mise en évidence dès la période de démarrage. Ces meilleures croissances n’ont pas donné une meilleure efficience alimentaire des rations avec le coton « glandless ». A l’exception des protéines dont les données de digestibilité n’ont pu être étudiées pour des raisons techniques, aucune différence n’a été observée sur la digestibilité des nutriments des divers aliments expérimentaux. Les mortalités enregistrées ont également été conformes aux normes dans la zone d’étude. L’examen des carcasses a révélé un développement plus important des muscles pectoraux (le bréchet) et des cuisses des animaux ayant reçu les taux d’incorporation de coton les plus élevés. La différence de la composition en acide gras des huiles de la fève de coton et de la graine d’arachide, de l’huile d’arachide ayant été apporté dans la ration témoin et substituée dans les différentes rations selon le niveau d’incorporation d’amandes de coton, a conduit à l’étude du profil des acides gras des lipides des muscles et des graisses abdominales. Une augmentation des teneurs en acide linoléique au détriment de l’acide oléique - plus présent dans l’huile d’arachide - a ainsi été mise en évidence. Ces effets positifs du coton « glandless » ont été confirmés par une autre expérimentation ayant comparé l’aliment témoin avec un aliment présentant une substitution totale du tourteau d’arachide par la fève de coton, avec également une ration simplifiée destinée aux éleveurs amateurs, et enfin avec un aliment homologué de commerce. La substitution totale du tourteau d’arachide ne s’est pas traduite par une baisse de performances. Les faibles performances des animaux ayant reçu la ration simplifée, constituée essentiellement de maïs, de la fève de coton et de CMV, laisse envisager sa vulgarisation auprès des petits producteurs traditionnels où les fortes croissances ne constituent pas une priorité. Suite aux effets positifs observés avec la fève de coton en substitution du tourteau d’arachide, une quatrième partie a été abordée pour discriminer les effets propres liés aux protéines et aux lipides de cet aliment. Un dispositif à deux critères de variance, incluant la présence ou non de protéine de coton et la présence ou non de lipides de coton, a été appliqué. Pour ce faire, une partie de la fève de coton a été délipidée pour être associée à l’huile d’arachide ; l’huile extraite a été utilisée avec du tourteau d’arachide, tandis que la fève non-délipidée représentait l’aliment riche en protéine et en huile de coton. Au final les rations expérimentales étaient iso-lipidiques et iso-protéiques. Aucune différence significative liée au type principal de lipides n’a été observée sur les paramètres de croissance et d’ingestion. Une forte appétence liée aux protéines de coton a par contre été mise en évidence entraînant de meilleures performances pondérales chez les poulets ayant reçu les protéines de coton. De plus, les animaux ayant reçu la fève délipidée et l’huile d’arachide ont donné des poids et une ingestion supérieure à ceux nourris avec les aliments contenant la fève de coton non-délipidé. L’étude de la composition en acide gras a révélé une amélioration des teneurs en PUFA dans les lipides intra-musculaires des animaux ayant reçu les protéines de coton. Au niveau des graisses, l’huile de coton a accru la teneur en PUFA et notamment en acide linoléique, très présent dans l’huile de coton. Les huiles ainsi contenues dans les rations ont principalement été déposées de façon mécanique au niveau des graisses abdominales. En conclusion cette étude a permis de montrer qu’il est possible d’utiliser la fève de coton des variétés exempt de glandes à gossypol comme aliment en production de poulets pour améliorer les performances des animaux. Dans les pays en développement où les fabriques d’aliment sont obligées d’importer des concentrés protéiques, la vulgarisation de variétés exemptes de gossypol uniquement dans la graine pourrait constituer une véritable opportunité.

إنجليزي. This study evaluates the effects of glanded and glandless cottonseed by-products in broilers production in Senegal. Experimentations were conducted in the experimental station of ENSA of the University of Thies (Senegal). The chemical analyses have been done in nutrition service of the faculty of veterinary medicine and Gembloux Agro-Biotech of the University of Liege (Belgium). The first part of this study is relative to the nutritive value of cottonseed by-products and their importance in broilers production. It sums up all of the different treatments of cottonseed and which have an impact on the chemical composition of the cottonseed meal after oil extraction. The anti-nutritional factors as the gossypol have also been characterized as well as their effects on poultry. At the final, a synthesis of the various processes of detoxification of the gossypol has been done and the limits of incorporations of the cottonseed by-products in broilers feed have been defined. The second part of this work is about the use of the conventional cotton to evaluate its zootechnic effects on broilers production. Cottonseed kernel from seeds partial shelling in millet mill and the sifting by-product has been used. This kernel presents advantage, in comparison with the cottonseed meal, to be in less level of cell walls but also to have a nutritive quality close to the almond of the cotton seeds. Its incorporation in the experimental diets in substitution of the groundnut cake at 25, 50 and 75% levels decreased significantly the ponderal performances, the feed intake, the feed efficiency and the nutrients digestibility. The weakest incorporation during this study resulted in a reduction of at least of the half of the animal’s body weight. This tendency maintained itself to all levels of substitution with, as corollary, an increasing mortality after 6 weeks for the group which have received the diet with 75% of groundnut substitution. The negative effect of the gossypol on the diets appetence which would be at the origin of the weak body weights of the broilers and the toxicity of this substance for these animals has been underlined. This study showed that the glanded cottonseed by-product must be excluded in broilers diets. However, they could constitute an alternative in family poultry where the growth of the animals is very slow because of the rarity of feed resources and the availability of this resource in the cotton zones of developing countries. Indeed, levels of incorporation which could average 10% in broilers diets with long breeding period have thus been determined. The third part of this work describes two experimentations with the use of cottonseed kernels from cotton varieties without gossypol glands on the seed (« glandless ») in replacement of the groundnut cake. In a first time, a protocol similar to the one of the conventional cotton has been applied with the same levels of substitution (0, 25, 50 and 75%). In contrary with the glanded cottonseed kernels, an increase of the ponderal performances which was consecutive to the best level of feed intake has been underlined since the starting period. These better growths didn't give a better feed efficiency of the diets with glandless cotton. Except the proteins of which the digestibility wasn’t evaluated for technical reasons, no difference has been observed on the nutrients digestibility of the various experimental diets. Mortalities were also in conformity with the norms in the experimental zone. The exam of the carcasses showed a more important development of the pectoral muscles (the breast) and of the thighs of the animals which received the high incorporation levels of cotton. The difference of the fatty acid composition in oils of the cottonseed kernels and the groundnut seed, the groundnut oil which was adding to the control diet and substituted in the different experimental feed according to the level of the incorporation of cotton almonds, conducted to the study of the fatty acids profile of the lipids of the muscles and abdominal fat. An increase of the levels of linoleic acid in opposite effect of the oleic acid - more present in groundnut oil - has been underlined. These positive effects of glandless cotton have been confirmed by another experimentation having compared the control diet with a food presenting a total substitution of the groundnut cake by the cottonseed kernel, with also a simple formulated diet for the non-professional poultry farmers, and finally with a food ratified of trade. The total substitution of groundnut cake didn't result in a decrease of performances. The weak performances of the animals feeding with the simple formulated diet, constituted essentially of corn, cottonseed kernel and CMV, let consider its popularization family poultry where accelerated growths wasn’t a priority. Following the positive effects observed with the cottonseed kernel in substitution of the groundnut cake, a fourth part has been reached to discriminate the proteins and the lipids effects of this diet. A test which include the presence or not of protein of cotton and the presence or not of cotton lipids, has been conducted. For that, a part of the cottonseed kernel was delipided to be associated to the groundnut oil; the extracted oil has been used with the groundnut cake, while the non-delipided cottonseed kernel represented the diet rich in protein and oil of cotton. At the end, experimental diets were in the same level of lipid and protein. No significant difference associated to the main source of lipids has been observed on the growing parameters and the feed intake. A high appetence with the cotton proteins has in contrary been underlined and gave better ponderal performances at the broilers feeding with the proteins of cotton. Besides, the animals feeding the delipided cottonseed kernel and the groundnut oil gave the higher weights and feed intake than those fed with diets containing the undelipided cottonseed kernel. The study of the fatty acid composition showed an improvement of the levels of PUFA in the intra-muscular lipid of the animals feeding with diets of the cotton proteins. In the lipids of abdominal fat, cotton oil increased the level of PUFA and especially in linoleic acid which is in high level in cotton oil. Lipids in diets have been deposited mainly in a mechanical way to the abdominal fat. In conclusion this study showed that it is possible to use the cottonseed kernel of cotton varieties without gossypol glands as diet in broilers production to improve the animal’s performances. In the developing countries where the animals feed factories are obliged to import some protein premix, the popularization of varieties exempt of gossypol glands only in their seed could constitute a real opportunity.
