A NOTE ON THE CHARACTERIZATION OF THE EXTENSIVE RAISING OF PALMICHE-FED CRIOLLO PIGS | UNA NOTA SOBRE LA CARACTERIZACIN DE LA CEBA EXTENSIVADE CERDOS CRIOLLO ALIMENTADOS CON PALMICHE

Con el objetivo de evaluar el comportamiento productivo de cerdos Criollo en crecimiento - ceba para la produccin de carnes especiales con empleo del palmiche, se utilizaron 20 cerdos Criollo distribuidos segn un diseo completamente aleatorizado, con peso promedio inicial de 22.05 kg y 86 das de edad. Estos animales se ubicaron en un potrero de 2 ha y se alimentaron con una dieta de pienso de ceba y palmiche. Se evaluaron los indicadores peso inicial (kg), final (kg), ganancia media diaria (g) y conversin alimentaria (kg/kg), las cuales fueron procesados a travs de un anlisis descriptivo mediante el paquete estadstico Statgraphics. La prueba se extendi por 131 das, nueve das antes de lo previsto, dado el alto peso inicial de 91.9 kg y ganancia media diaria acumulada de 534 g. Las edades inicial y final promedio fueron 86 y 217 das, respectivamente. El consumo medio per cpita del pienso fue 2.17 kg y de palmiche 2 kg. Las conversiones alimentarias de pienso fueron 4.07 y de pienso ms palmiche de 7.81 kg/kg, con una eficiencia superior respecto a pruebas realizadas anteriormente. Al inicio de la prueba los cerdos de mayor peso constituan el 25 % (entre 34 y 28 kg), mientras que al final de la prueba el 50 % alcanzaron ms de 93 kg. En esta prueba de comportamiento se obtienen indicadores superiores a otros estudios, con un buen crecimiento compensatorio, y un biotipo muy tpico Criollo. Se recomienda fortalecer este coto de reserva gentica para que aporte pie de cra al rebao ncleo gentico.

With the objective of evaluating the productive performance of Criollo pigs raised for the production of special meats using palm nuts, there were studied 20 Criollo pigs in the growing-fattening stage, with an initial average weight of 22.05 kg and the initial average age was 86 days old. The test was scheduled to last lasted 140 days, but it took only 131 days, given the high initial weight of 91.9 kg and cumulative mean daily gain of 534 g. The average final age was 217 days old. The average per capita consumption of the standard feed was 2.17 kg, and for the palm nuts it was 2 kg. The feed conversions were 4.07 for the standard feed, and with the inclusion of palm nuts it was of 7.81 kg / kg, with a higher efficiency compared to previous tests. At the beginning of the test, heavy pigs (between 34 and 28 kg) were the 25% of the total, while at the end of the test, 50% of them had reached more than 93 kg. There were obtained indicators superior to other studies. The Indicators superior to other studies are obtained, with good compensatory growth, and a very typical Criollo biotype. It is recommended to strengthen this genetic reserve so it shall contribute with breeding boars and sows to the genetic nucleus herd.
