One of the important tasks when creating new wheat varieties is testing their reaction to the application of certain agrotechnical measures. In this sense, scientific-research institutions continuously examine different aspects of fertilization with each newly created variety, e.g. amounts, time and methods of application of macro- and microelements, then optimal sowing time, different sowing densities, etc. The aim of the research was to analyze the influence of increasing nitrogen doses in top dressing in interaction with the increasing sowing density on the grain yield of three winter wheat varieties, and by using the method of the difference in yield between increasing doses of nitrogen, to determine its contribution to the formation of grain yield at different sowing densities. On average for the entire trial, the increase in wheat grain yield with one kilogram of nitrogen used in top dressing was 25.09 kg of grain/1 kg of N, however, the values of nitrogen use efficiency varied depending on the sowing density, and especially on the varieties. At all sowing densities, the highest nitrogen efficiency was when applied 50 kg N ha-1 , so this dose can be considered rational considering the least N losses and environmental pollution. However, from the aspects of the joint effect on the wheat yield and the efficiency of nitrogen utilization, the variant with the application of a medium dose of nitrogen (100 kg ha-1 ) stands out as especially rational. The highest nitrogen agronomic use efficiency was the variety NS 40S (26.06 kg grain/kg N), slightly lower was NS Igra, and the lowest was variety NS Grivna.
