Solution NaCl, a software to make salt dilution gauging more accessible | Solution NaCl : UN LOGICIEL POUR RENDRE PLUS ACCESSIBLES LES JAUGEAGES PAR DILUTION AU SEL

The salt dilution method for flow measurement consists of injecting a saline tracer in a stream and recording the temporal evolution of conductivity, and indirectly the salt concentration, at a position located downstream. The temporal integration of this concentration curve allows to calculate an average concentration and the tracer dilution rate which is proportional to the flow discharge. The use of kitchen salt and a conductivity meter makes the deployment very easy as the method is inexpensive, quick to implement and reliable. When using a conductivity meter, the calculation steps may sometimes frighten users who are less comfortable with data processing. The software Solution NaCl can be used to calculate the instantaneous flow rate by importing the gauging data from the field. The boundaries of the conductivity signal are graphically selected through the user interface. The average salt concentration and the flow rate are automatically calculated from the in-situ calibration data and the quantity of salt injected, respectively. The software also offers to export a report in pdf format, gathering the metadata and the gauging results. This free and easy-to-use software can be downloaded from the INRAE website (https://riverhydraulics.inrae.fr/en/tools/measurement-software/solution-nacl/). It is not intended to replace commercial software distributed with gauging systems that embed calculations and are often more expensive than a simple conductivity meter. The proposed software is a solution that makes the method more accessible to non-specialist users who are only equipped with a traditional conductivity meter.

فرنسي. La méthode dite « globale » ou « instantanée » de jaugeage par dilution au sel consiste à injecter dans un cours d'eau une solution de traceur salin et à suivre sur une section située en aval l'évolution temporelle de la conductivité, et donc indirectement de la concentration en sel. L'intégration temporelle de cette concentration permet de calculer une concentration moyenne, et donc un taux de dilution du traceur qui est proportionnel au débit du cours d'eau. L'utilisation de sel de cuisine et d'un conductimètre rendent le déploiement de cette méthode très accessible, car peu coûteuse, rapide à mettre en oeuvre et fiable. Dans le cas de l'utilisation d'un conductimètre, les étapes de calcul peuvent parfois freiner les utilisateurs moins à l'aise avec le traitement des données. Le logiciel Solution NaCl permet de calculer automatiquement le débit instantané en important les données de jaugeage issues du terrain, en renseignant les données de calibration établies in-situ et la quantité de sel injectée, puis en sélectionnant graphiquement sur l'interface utilisateur les bornes du nuage de conductivité. Le logiciel propose par ailleurs d'exporter un rapport au format pdf, rassemblant les métadonnées et les résultats du jaugeage. Ce logiciel gratuit et simple d'utilisation est téléchargeable sur le site de l'équipe de recherche Hydraulique des Rivières d'INRAE (https://riverhydraulics.inrae.fr/outils/logiciels/solutionnacl/). Il n'a pas vocation à remplacer les logiciels commerciaux distribués avec les systèmes de jaugeage qui intègrent les calculs directement dans la chaîne de mesure, souvent plus chers qu'un simple conductimètre. C'est en revanche une solution qui rend plus accessible la méthode aux utilisateurs non spécialistes et seulement équipés d'un traditionnel conductimètre.
