The results of the time series of larvae surveys in the mainspawning area of the western Baltic Sea spring spawningherring were evaluated. The quality of the recruitment indexN 30 was studied. The raw data of 1977 to 1987 have gotlost. In 1988 and 1989 the data for the estimation of therecruitment index are biased. Only since 1990 the basic datacan be considered reliable.
