Efectividad del lodo textil en la producción y composición química del fruto de tomate | Textile sludge effectiveness on the production and chemical composition of tomato fruit

El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar el efecto de lodos residuales textiles aplicados en un sustrato de peat moss y perlita sobre la producción y composición química del fruto del tomate (Solanum lycopersicum). Los lodos fueron caracterizados con la NOM-004-SEMARNAT-2002 y NOM-021-RECNAT-2000. Tomate de la variedad Rio Grande, fue trasplantado a macetas de plástico de 14 litros con sustrato de peat moss y perlita (70:30 en volumen) en donde se añadió y mezcló el lodo textil en concentraciones de 0, 5, 10, 15 y 20% con base en volumen. La nutrición se hizo con la solución Steiner. Los lodos mostraron características adecuadas para su uso agrícola según la NOM-004-SEMARNAT-2002. La producción de frutos no fue modificada por la aplicación de los lodos textiles. La concentración de elementos minerales en los frutos aumentó en un 0.14% para el Na y en 15 y 223 mg kg-1 para el Zn y Fe, respectivamente. En cambio para el K disminuyó en 0.58% al igual que para el Mn con un valor menor en 22 mg kg-1. El contenido de N, P, Ca, Mg y Cu no mostró cambios significativos. El pH de los frutos no varió por efecto de los tratamientos, mientras que la vitamina C y los sólidos solubles totales mostraron un incremento hasta de 36% y hasta de 52%, respectivamente, en los tratamientos con lodos, efecto atribuido a la aportación de sales solubles de los lodos. No se encontró evidencia de transferencia de metales pesados y coliformes fecales del lodo textil a los frutos más allá de los valores permitidos por las normas ambientales y de salud. En cambio si se detectó la presencia de huevos de helmintos en valor mayor al permitido por la norma en los frutos de plantas tratadas con la mayor concentración de lodos.

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of textile sludge applied on a substrate of peat moss and perlite on production and chemical composition of tomato fruit (Solanum lycopersicum). The sludge was characterized with the NOM-004-SEMARNAT-2002 and NOM-021-2000-RECNAT. Tomato of the variety Río Grande was transplanted into 14 liter plastic-pots with peat moss and perlite (70:30 by volume) in which was added and mixed textile sludge in concentrations of 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20% based on the volume. Nutrition was made with the Steiner solution. The sludge showed characteristics suitable for agricultural use by NOM-004-SEMARNAT-2002. Fruit production was not modified by the application of textile sludge. The concentration of mineral elements in the fruits increased by 0.14% for Na and 15 and 223 mg kg-1 for Zn and Fe, respectively. On the other hand, K decreased by 0.58% as well as for Mn with a value smaller of 22 mg kg-1. The content of N, P, Ca, Mg and Cu showed no significant changes at all. The pH of the fruits do not vary by effect of the treatments, while vitamin C and total soluble solids showed an increase up to 36% and 52%, respectively, in the sludge treatments an effect attributed to the contribution of the sludge´s soluble salts. There was no evidence of transferring of heavy metals and fecal coliform of the textile sludge to the fruits beyond those permitted by the environmental and health standards. However, we detected the presence of helminth eggs in higher values than those allowed by the standard in the fruits of plants treated with the highest concentration of sludge.
