Efecto de tratamientos antiparasitario y antianémico sobre la ganancia de peso e indicadores hematoquímicos en ovejas tropicales infectadas en condiciones naturales | Effect of antihelmintic and antianemic treatments on gain weight and haemato chemical indicators in tropical sheep infected under natural conditions

Reconociendo la importancia de las infecciones por estróngilos digestivos como limitante de la explotación de pequeños rumiantes, se planteó un estudio cuyo objetivo fue conocer el efecto que el tratamiento simultáneo antihelmíntico y antianémico puede ejercer sobre la ganancia de peso, valores hematológicos y algunos indicadores de química sanguínea. Cuarenta ovejas mestizas West African con un peso promedio de 22,2 kg y una edad aproximada de 19,2 meses fueron sometidas a un sistema de explotación agrosilvopastoril e infectadas en condiciones naturales. Durante la época intermedia se evaluó cada 15 días y por cuatro meses la carga parasitaria (hpg), la ganancia de peso (GDP), hematocrito (Ht), hemoglobina (Hb), proteínas totales (PT), albúmina y globulinas. Durante el cuarto muestreo se aplicó un tratamiento antihelmíntico vía subcutánea y un antianémico por tres veces a un intervalo de 48 horas vía intramuscular. Los recuentos de hpg no presentaron una distribución normal, por lo cual se utilizó en su análisis la prueba no paramétrica para datos apareados de Wilcoxon. El resto de los resultados fue analizado utilizando la prueba de "t" para datos apareados. Los resultados señalan una efectividad del producto en un 95,7% observándose diferencias significativas (P<0,001) entre los valores de hpg antes (AT) y después del tratamiento (DT). Los resultados de las GDP señalan un incremento (P<0,05) después de la administración del antiparasitario y del antianémico una vez disminuido el efecto parasitario. Los valores de Ht y Hb resultaron compatibles con anemia en AT y significativamente (P<0,001) superiores en DT. Los valores de PT en AT son atribuibles a un déficit proteico de la dieta, asociado a un proceso de disminución del apetito. No se observaron diferencias significativas en los valores de globulinas, lo que señala una moderada respuesta humoral. Se concluye que la administración simultánea del antihelmíntico y del antianémico favorece la ganancia de peso y mejora los parámetros hematológicos (hematocrito y hemoglobina), así como los valores de proteínas totales

Recognizing the relevance of the infections by digestive estrongile as a limiting factor to the exploitation of small ruminants, it was planned a study to evaluate the effect of that a anthelmintic and antianemic simultaneous treatment might exert on the gain weight, hematological values, and some indicators of blood chemistry. Forty West African cross breed sheep with a weight average of 22.2 kg and 19.2 months old, were raised under an agroforestry system and infected under natural conditions. During the intermediate rainfall time, the sheep were evaluated every 15 days during four months and the following items recorded: strongylid egg per gram counts (epg), daily gain weight (DGW), haematocrit (Ht), hemoglobin (Hb), total proteins (PT), albumin, and globulins. During the fourth sampling it was applied simultaneously an anthelmintic and antianemic treatment. The results showed a high effectiveness of the product (95.7%) when compared before (BT) and after treatment (AT). The DGW was significantly higher after the treatment application (P<0.05). The observed values BT of Ht and Hb were compatible with anemia, but these values were increased in AT sheep (P<0.001). The PT in BT was attributable to a protein deficit in the diet, associated with a reduced appetite which is common in strongylid infestation process. No significantly differences were observed in the values of globulins, indicating a moderate humoral response. It is concluded that the simultaneous application of the anthelmintic and antianemic treatment resulted in higher weight gain, improved the haematological parameters (haematocrit and hemoglobin), as well the total proteins values
