Diseño de una estructura de atrapanieblas para la obtención de agua en el municipio de Santa Rosa de Viterbo | Design of a fog-catching structure to obtain water in the municipality of Santa Rosa de Viterbo

El trabajo se enfoca en abordar la crítica escasez de agua potable en Santa Rosa de Viterbo, Colombia, que se ve agravada por la variabilidad climática. Para enfrentar este desafío, se propone la implementación de un sistema de atrapanieblas inspirado en la biomimesis, ofreciendo una solución sostenible y adecuada para las condiciones locales. La metodología empleada combina análisis cuantitativos y cualitativos, teniendo en cuenta tanto la variabilidad climática como la gestión sostenible del agua. Se emplearon herramientas como Fusion 360 para digitalizar los planos y se realizaron comparaciones de materiales y costos para el prototipo, proporcionando un manual de instrucciones para su ensamblaje. Los resultados obtenidos incluyen un análisis climático que guio la ubicación del prototipo en el campo, así como la elección de la guadua como material de construcción. Se llevó a cabo un piloto en la vereda La Chorrera de la Finca Gratamira en Santa Rosa de Viterbo para verificar la funcionalidad del prototipo. Aunque los datos de condensación recopilados durante el muestreo no son representativos, se registró una condensación promedio de 2.04 litros por día. Además, se analizaron los costos asociados a la construcción y los beneficios que el sistema podría ofrecer a la comunidad. La inversión inicial de aproximadamente $100.000 pesos podrían recuperarse en unos 3 meses, considerando un volumen mensual de agua condensada de alrededor de 60 litros/mes. Es importante destacar que más de 6000 habitantes de la zona rural de Santa Rosa de Viterbo se verían directamente beneficiados por este proyecto.

The work focuses on addressing the critical shortage of drinking water in Santa Rosa de Viterbo, Colombia, which is aggravated by climate variability. To address this challenge, the implementation of a biomimicry-inspired fog catcher system is proposed, offering a sustainable and adequate solution for local conditions. The methodology used combines quantitative and qualitative analyses, taking into account both climate variability and sustainable water management. Tools such as Fusion 360 were used to digitize the plans and material and cost comparisons were made for the prototype, providing an instruction manual for its assembly. The results obtained include a climatic analysis that guided the location of the prototype in the field, as well as the choice of guadua as the construction material. A pilot was carried out in the La Chorrera hamlet of Finca Gratamira in Santa Rosa de Viterbo to verify the functionality of the prototype. Although the condensation data collected during the brief sampling is not representative, an average condensation of 2.04 liters per day was recorded. In addition, the costs associated with construction and the benefits the system could provide to the community were analyzed. The initial investment of approximately $100,000 pesos could be recovered in about 3 months, considering a monthly volume of condensed water of about 60 liters. It is important to note that more than 6,000 inhabitants of the rural area of Santa Rosa de Viterbo would directly benefit from this project.
