Con el ritmo de las dinámicas actuales y a su vez la continua pérdida de los recursos naturales, el agua se convierte en prioridad y es responsabilidad de cada empresa, asegurar el recurso e implementar planes y políticas acerca del cuidado de la misma. Esta investigación se centra principalmente en la cuantificación de la huella hídrica, a través de un diagnóstico de la demanda en la Clínica del Occidente, cuantificar el volumen de agua generada por los componentes (agua verde, azul y gris) de la huella hídrica y la búsqueda de alternativas de mejora del consumo del recurso. Por lo anterior, se identifica el uso del recurso hídrico dentro de los procesos y actividades desarrollados, estableciendo el flujo del agua azul, dentro de los servicios y el consumo resultante de agua gris. Así se determina que el mayor consumo de agua se le atribuye a los servicios de hospitalización, esterilización y cirugía. La huella hídrica para la Clínica, se encuentra en el orden de los 3200m3 mensuales aproximadamente, cuenta con un área totalmente construida de 7240 m2. Como alternativa para el aprovechamiento del recurso, se toma como referente la estación climatológica de El Dorado, que registra un promedio de volumen escurrido de 420,01 m3 mensual frente al área de la Clínica. Como resultado se podrá obtener la reducción de los costos por consumo de agua mensual hasta en un monto aproximado de $1’548.999 tomando el costo por m3 de $3688 reportado en octubre de 2017 por la Clínica.

The current social dynamics against the continuous loss of natural resources, in which water has become a priority and is the responsibility of each company, to ensure the resource and implement plans and policies regarding the care of it. This research focuses mainly on the quantification of the water footprint, through a diagnosis of the demand in the “Clínica del Occidente”, to quantify the volume of water generated by the components (green, blue and gray water) of the water footprint and the search for alternatives to improve the consumption of the resource. Therefore, the use of water resources within the processes and activities developed is identified, establishing the flow of blue water, within the services and the resulting consumption of gray water. Thus it is determined that the greater water consumption is attributed to the hospitalization, sterilization and surgery services. The water footprint for the Clinic, is in the order of approximately 3200m3 per month, has a total built area of 7240 m2. As an alternative for the use of the resource, the weather station of El Dorado is taken as a reference, which records an average drained volume of 420,01 m3 monthly compared to the area of the Clinic. As a result, the reduction of costs for monthly water consumption can be obtained up to an approximate amount of $1’548.999 taking the cost per m3 of $ 3688 reported in October 2017 by the Clinic.
