El hierro presente en el agua de consumo humano presenta serios problemas para la infraestructura de redes, válvulas y accesorios por las incrustaciones y el riesgo de formación de biopelículas al interior de las tuberías. Los usuarios de agua potable tienden a generar rechazo a las aguas que presentan color, sabor y sólidos suspendidos.
