Análisis de las prácticas del extensionista rural y sus efectos en la formación de los caficultores

RESUMEN: La caficultura en Colombia ha evolucionado gracias a los instrumentos que los extensionistas fomentan para el desarrollo de procesos productivos con comunidades rurales, generando estrategias para el aumento de la productividad a través de las diferentes técnicas agropecuarias, identificando líderes y motivándolos a una cohesión con la población, para forjar objetivos en común, capacitando a la comunidad en una acertada toma de decisiones en sus cafetales, con aprendizajes duraderos en el tiempo y construyendo un intercambio de ideas entre todos los actores implicados. Este estudio, analizó las prácticas del extensionista rural que presentan mejor adopción en los caficultores de la vereda Sabanas, identificando sus efectos en la productividad del sistema cafetero, mediante metodologías de tipo mixto con enfoque cuantitativo y cualitativo, evaluando la experiencia de los actores involucrados mediante encuestas de formato estructurado de preguntas abiertas y cerradas y una entrevista semiestructurada de preguntas guía. A través de los resultados se evidenció que el método preferido por los caficultores es la visita a finca, porque sienten que aprenden mientras realizan sus actividades y se atienden sus necesidades puntuales, por otro lado, el extensionista muestra interés por la investigación participativa con agricultores, porque comparte el mismo pensamiento de aprender-haciendo, sin embargo, no es la práctica más reconocida por parte de los productores al ser confundida con otros métodos, ni la más sencilla para aplicar por el volumen de caficultores a atender. Desde esa perspectiva el hecho más importante es que los procesos llevados a los productores, disten del asistencialismo, buscando que el extensionista priorice el cambio de comportamiento, actitud y prácticas, que hay con sus actividades en la zona, enfocándose en la generación de estrategias que brinden desarrollo local sostenible y perdurable, basados en que la prioridad no debe ser el cumplimiento de metas para la institución donde desempeña su rol.

ABSTRACT: Coffee farming in Colombia has evolved thanks to the instruments that extensionists promote for the development of productive activities with rural communities, generating strategies to increase productivity through different agricultural techniques, identifying leaders and motivating them to connect with the population, forge common goals, training the community in making right decisions in their coffee plantations, with lasting learnings over time and building exchange of ideas between all the people involved. This study analyzed the practices of the rural extensionist that present better adoption in the coffee farmers in the Sabanas village, identifying their effects on their coffee production, through mixed-type methodologies with a quantitative and qualitative approach, evaluating the experience of the people involved through structured surveys with open and closed questions and a semi-structured interview with guiding questions. Through the results it was evident that preferred method by coffee farmers is visit to the farm, because they feel like they learn while carrying out their activities and their specific needs, on the other hand, the extensionist shows interest in participatory research with farmers, because sharing the idea of learning-by-doing, however, it is not the most recognized practice by producers due it’s confusion with other methods, nor is the simplest to perform for the volume of coffee growers to attend. From this perspective, the most important fact is that the processes brought to the producers are far from just technical assistance, seeking that the extensionist prioritize a change of behavior, attitude and practices, which exist within their activities, focusing in generation of strategies that provide sustainable and lasting local development, based on the fact that the priority should not be the fulfillment of goals for the institution where it performs its role.
