Climatic characterization of the Banderas Bay Region using Köppen’s system modified by García and Geographic Information Systems techniques | Caracterización climática para la región de Bahía de Banderas mediante el sistema de Köppen, modificado por García, y técnicas de sistemas de información geográfica

إنجليزي. The identification of different climatic zones can be an important factor for decision-makers in various fields such as urban planning and agricultural alternatives. In order to characterize the climates of the region of Bahía de Banderas (BB) Mexico, we adopted a methodology that combines the use of the Köppen climate classification modified by Garc.a for Mexico and methods of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). We used simple regression between temperature (dependent variable) and height as independent variable. Multiple regressions were applied for rainfall (dependent variable) and geographical data as independent variables (thermal continentality, thermopluviometric index and slope). The temperature and precipitation data were obtained from the Comisión Nacional del Agua, and ERIC III, 2006 database. Information from geographical variables was obtained from a Digital Elevation Model and Gorzynski’s Index of Continentality. The coefficients of simple and multiple regressions were used to construct digital maps of annual temperature and precipitation via GIS. With these maps and using the CCK-EG tool, we generated the final map of climatic characterization. The result was highly representative. The determination coefficients were 0.82 and 0.39 for temperature and precipitation respectively. The resulting classification for each of the stations was located in their corresponding climate zone on the final map. Zones and climatic limits were identified for this study region.

La identificación de diferentes zonas climáticas puede ser un factor importante para los tomadores de decisiones en diversos campos como el ordenamiento urbano o las alternativas agrícolas. Con el propósito de caracterizar los climas de la región de Bahía de Banderas, México, se adoptó una metodología que combina el uso de la Clasificación Climática de Köppen modificada por García para México y técnicas de sistemas de información geográfica (SIG). Se utilizó regresión simple entre temperatura (variable dependiente) y altitud como variable independiente. Se aplicó La ecuación de la regresión múltiple a la precipitación (variable dependiente) y datos geográficos como variables independientes (índice de continentalidad termo-pluviométrica y pendiente). La información para temperatura y precipitación fue obtenida de la Comisión Nacional del Agua y de la base de datos ERICIII, 2006. La información de la pendiente fue obtenida del Modelo Digital de Elevación y del índice de Gorzynski para continentalidad. Los coeficientes de la regresión simple y múltiple fueron utilizados para construir los mapas digitales de temperatura y precipitación anual mediante SIG. Con estos mapas y aplicando la herramienta Kóppen-García, se generó la carta final para la caracterización climática. Los coeficientes de determinación fueron de 0.82 y 0.39 para temperatura y precipitación, respectivamente. La clasificación resultante para cada una de las estaciones quedó. localizada en su zona climática correspondiente en la carta final. Se identificaron zonas y límites climáticos para esta región de estudio.
