Daayata, A.M.F.
The effect of keratinase and processing method in the nutrient digestibility and energy value of feather meal in broiler chickens and tilapia were determined. The five feather meal samples consisted of untreated steam hydrolyzed (FM), enzyme treated steam hydrolyzed (FME), and untreated shredded and sterilized (FMS) feather meals. In both the trials, a reference diet was mixed with the test ingredient with a 70:30 ratio to produce the test diets. Results of the broiler trial showed an AME sub n, value of the FM treatment at 3,091.59 kcal/kg DM, while FME had values ranging from 3,148.23 to 3,232.68 kcal/kg DM, and the FMS was at 3,358.65 kcal/kg DM. The AME sub n values of FME and FMS were higher (P0.04) compared to the FM treatment. Moreover, the FMS was found to have higher (P
