Teor de proteína e curva de hidratação em auxílio à determinação da qualidade fisiológica de sementes de arroz | Protein content and hydration curve aiding in the determination of the physiological quality of rice seeds

This work aimed to evaluate the protein content and hydration curve as aiding tools in the determination of the physiological quality of rice seeds, as well as correlate them with emergency in field. Six lots of rice seeds were used, being that, three lots were of cultivar IRGA 417 and three lots of cultivar IRGA 422 CL, which were submitted to a set of tests in order to measure the following physiological potential of the lots: germination, first counting of the germination test, cold test (without soil), accelerated aging, electrical conductivity, length and dry mass of seedlings. After determining the initial quality of the lots, a new set of tests such as crude protein content, evaluations of the seedlings and plants in the field and hydration cur ve were carried out. We can conclude that crude protein content is able to identify differences between the lots of rice due to the quality of the seeds. Therefore, it is a promising determination that comes to aid conventional tests in the evaluation of the physiological potential of the rice seeds. The physiological quality affects the water content reached by the rice seeds during hydration, being that, seeds with lower vigor present lower speed and water content up to 24 h, when compared to seeds with higher vigor. The protein content is not correlated to the germination and emergency of the seedlings in the field, except when the emergency occurs in unusual conditions. The vigor tests of the first counting of the germination, accelerated aging and applied to rice seeds are correlated to the emergency in field and the establishment of the plants at 21 days after sowing.

O trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o teor de proteína e a curva de hidratação como elementos auxiliares na determinação da qualidade fisiológica de sementes de arroz, além de correlacioná-los com a emergência em campo. Foram utilizados seis lotes de sementes de arroz, sendo três lotes da cultivar IRGA 417 e três lotes da cultivar IRGA 422 CL, que foram submetidas ao conjunto de testes, para caracterizar o potencial fisiológico dos lotes: germinação, primeira contagem do teste de germinação, frio sem solo, envelhecimento acelerado, condutividade elétrica, comprimento de plântula, massa seca de plântula. Após a determinação da qualidade inicial dos lotes foi aplicado novo conjunto de testes, compostos pelo teor de proteína bruta, avaliações das plântulas e plantas em campo e pela curva de hidratação. Conclui-se que o teor de proteína bruta é capaz de identificar diferenças entre lotes de arroz, em função da qualidade das sementes, portanto, trata-se de uma determinação promissora para associação aos testes convencionais para avaliação do potencial fisiológico das sementes de arroz. A qualidade fisiológica afeta o teor de água alcançado pelas sementes de arroz durante a hidratação, sendo que as sementes de menor vigor apresentam menor velocidade e teor de água até 24 horas, quando comparadas com sementes de maior vigor. O teor de proteína não se correlaciona com a germinação e a emergência das plântulas em campo, exceto quando a emergência ocorre em condições desfavoráveis. Os testes de vigor de primeira contagem da germinação e envelhecimento acelerado aplicados em sementes de arroz correlacionam-se com a emergência em campo e o estabelecimento de plantas aos 21 dias após a semeadura.
