Modelo SIMASS-C: inclusão da modelagem do crescimento e desenvolvimento do milho | The SIMASS-C model: including the modeling of the maize growth and development

A técnica de simulação que envolve o sistema planta-solo-atmosfera serve de suporte para pesquisas de campo e para o uso eficiente e sustentável da água, dos nutrientes e dos agrotóxicos no sistema produtivo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi desenvolver um modelo mecanístico de simulação do crescimento e desenvolvimento para a cultura do milho (Zea mays L.), testá- lo com resultados obtidos experimentalmente, implementá- lo no modelo de movimento de água e soluto no solo com presença de cultura (SIMASS-C) e testar o modelo SIMASS-C modificado. O modelo de crescimento e desenvolvimento de planta simula o crescimento potencial da cultura, isto é, a acumulação de matéria seca em condições de suprimento adequado de água e nutrientes no solo e ausência de pragas e doenças. Primeiramente, o modelo calcula a taxa de assimilação de CO 2 (fotossíntese bruta) do dossel da cultura que, posteriormente, é convertida em carboidrato (CH 2 O). A quantidade de carboidrato assimilada diariamente é usada prioritariamente para suprir a respiração de manutenção e a restante é fracionada entre os órgãos da planta e convertida em matéria seca. O modelo de crescimento e desenvolvimento de planta foi testado utilizando-se dados obtidos em experimento realizado na área experimental do Departamento de Engenharia Agrícola da Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV). A cultura do milho foi semeada em lisímetros de drenagem e conduzida de forma a atingir a produção potencial. Durante o ciclo de desenvolvimento do híbrido de milho Agromen 2012 foram realizadas determinações de área foliar, senescência foliar e matéria seca dos órgãos aéreos da planta e das raízes. Em seguida, o modelo de crescimento e desenvolvimento de planta foi implementado no SIMASS-C. Para testar o modelo SIMASS-C modificado foi conduzido um experimento em casa de vegetação em colunas de solo. Utilizou-se colunas de PVC com diâmetro externo de 20 cm e altura de 60 cm, as quais foram preenchidas com o horizonte B de um Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo álico e cultivadas com o híbrido de milho Agromen 2012. Os resultados obtidos demonstraram que o modelo de crescimento e desenvolvimento de plantas de milho estima adequadamente os valores de índice de área foliar e acúmulo de matéria seca nos órgãos da planta durante o ciclo de desenvolvimento da cultura. Os valores de conteúdo de água no solo e concentração de nitrato estimados pelo modelo SIMASS-C modificado ficaram dentro do intervalo de confiança de 95% dos valores observados. Os modelos utilizados no SIMASS-C modificado para estimar a densidade radicular e a absorção de nitrato não descreveram adequadamente estes processos. Neste sentido, há necessidade de implementar no modelo equações que descrevam melhor estes processos.

The simulation technique that involves the plant-soil-atmosphere system serves as a support for field researches as well as for the efficient and sustainable use of the water, nutrients and pesticides in the productive system. This study aimed at the development of a mechanistic model for simulating the growth and development of the maize (Zea mays L.) crop, as well as to test this model, by using the results obtained experimentally, to implement it into the model of the solute and water movement in the soil upon the presence of the crop (SIMASS-C) and to test the modified SIMASS-C model. The plant growth and development model simulates the potential growth of the crop, that is the dry matter accumulation under appropriate supply of water and nutrients in the soil and absence of pests and diseases. Firstly, the model calculates the CO 2 accumulation rate (gross photosynthesis) of the crop canopy, which is later converted into carbohydrate (CH 2 O). The amount of carbohydrates assimilated daily is preferentially used to supply the maintenance breathing, while the remainder one is partitioned among the organs of the plant and converted into dry matter. The growth and development model of the plant was tested, by using the data obtained from the experiment carried out in the experimental area pertaining to the Agricultural Engineering Department of the Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV). The maize was sowed in drainage lisimeters and the crop was conducted in such a way to reach the potential yield. Determinations of the leaf area, leaf senescence and the dry matter of the aerial organs of the plant and roots were accomplished during the development cycle of the maize hybrid Agromen 2012. Next, the plant growth an development model was implemented into SIMASS-C. An experiment with soil columns was carried out under greenhouse conditions in order to test the modified SIMASS-C model. A number of PVC columns with an external diameter of 20 cm and a height of 60 cm were fulfilled with the horizon B of an alic Yellow-Red Latosol and cropped with the hybrid maize Agromen 2012. The results showed that the growth and development model of the maize plants estimates appropriately the values of the leaf area index and the dry matter accumulation in the organs of the plant during the development cycle of this crop. The values of the soil water content and nitrate concentration estimated by the modified SIMASS-C model were within the confidence interval of 95% of the observed values. The models used in the modified SIMASS-C to estimate the root density and nitrate uptake did not appropriately describe these processes. Thus, other equations that provide a better description of these processes must be implemented into the model.
