Oxidação de álcoois e benzaldeído com peróxido de hidrogênio catalisada por tungstato de sódio e sais de Paládio(II) | Alcohols and benzaldehyde oxidation with hydrogen peroxide catalyzed by Palladium (II) salts and sodium tungstate

Reações de oxidação de álcoois terpênicos são um meio de agregar valor às matérias primas, gerando assim compostos de alto valor agregado muito utilizado em diversas indústrias, dentre elas farmacêuticas e de fragrâncias. Vários esforços têm sido feitos para que novos sistemas, menos agressivos ao meio ambiente e que demandam menos etapas, sejam obtidos. Em tais processos, o uso de oxidantes ambientalmente benignos como peroxido de hidrogênio, resulta não somente na redução de impactos ambientais como também no custo de produção. Neste trabalho, o objetivo principal foi avaliar a atividade catalítica do tungstato de sódio e de sais de Pd(II) em reações de oxidação de álcoois terpênicos e benzílico em soluções de dimetilacetamida (DMA) e posteriormente, testar a eficiência dos sais de paládio na esterificação oxidativa do benzaldeído em soluções alcoólicas e também na oxidação do álcool benzílico. Em todas as reações foi utilizado como oxidante o peróxido de hidrogênio, que se destaca por ser um oxidante de baixo custo e ambientalmente amigável pois gera somente água como subproduto. Parâmetros como a natureza e concentração do catalisador, razão molar substrato: oxidante e temperatura da reação foram analisados. O sistema Na 2 WO 4 / H 2 O 2 / DMA se mostrou altamente eficiente na oxidação de álcoois terpênicos e benzílico, alcançando altas conversões e seletividades para compostos carbonílicos (valores > 80% e >90%, respectivamente). A esterificação é uma das reações de maior importância na química orgânica, e a transformação direta de aldeído em éster vem atraindo cada vez mais a atenção e se faz uma alternativa valiosa, principalmente se pensar que quando a reação é feita por etapas, a etapa de oxidação do aldeído a ácido utiliza oxidantes estequiométricos e que geram resíduos tóxicos. O sistema testado para a esterificação oxidativa do benzaldeído catalisada por sais de paládio(II) se mostrou eficiente para a obtenção do produto de esterificação sem ser necessárias outras etapas de reação. A esterificação oxidativa do benzaldeído foi realizada no sistema PdCl 2 /H 2 O 2 /MeOH e os resultados preliminares mostraram conversões de 60 -70 %. A reação de esterificação oxidação do benzaldeído resultou na formação de produtos catalisados por espécies de paládio (ácido benzóico e álcool benzílico), como também de produtos catalisador por H + produzido in situ (benzoato de alquila e acetal). Produtos de oxidação foram favorecidos pelo aumento da razão molar H 2 O 2 : benzaldeído. Outros sais de paládio também foram avaliados (Pd(CH 3 COO) 2, Pd(CF 3 COO) 2 e Pd(C 5 H 7 O 2 ) 2 ), porém foram menos eficientes que o PdCl 2 . Na oxidação do álcool benzílico com peróxido de hidrogênio PdCl2 foi o catalisador mais eficiente, constatou-se que entre os solventes testados o DMA melhorou a conversão. E o sistema estudado foi altamente seletivo para obtenção do benzaldeído.

Oxidation reactions of terpenes are a means of adding value to the raw materials, thus generating compounds of high added value widely used in several industries, among them pharmaceutical and fragrances. A number of efforts have been made to develop new, less environment-friendly and less time-consuming systems. In such processes, the use of environmentally benign oxidants such as hydrogen peroxide results not only in the reduction of environmental impacts but also in the production cost. The main objective this work was to evaluate the catalytic activity of sodium tungstate and Pd (II) salts in oxidation reactions of terpene and benzylic alcohols in dimethylacetamide (DMA) solutions and, subsequently, to test the efficiency of the palladium salts in oxidative esterification of benzaldehyde in alcoholic solutions and also in the oxidation of benzyl alcohol. In all reactions the hydrogen peroxide was used as oxidant, which stands out as a low cost and environmentally friendly oxidant because it generates only water as a by-product. Parameters such nature, catalyst concentration, molar ratio substrate: oxidant and reaction temperature were analyzed. The Na 2 WO 4 /H 2 O 2 /DMA system was highly efficient in the terpenic and benzylic alcohols oxidation, reaching high conversions and selectivities for carbonyl compounds (values> 80% and> 90% respectively). Esterification is one of the most important reactions in organic chemistry, and the direct transformation of aldehyde into ester has attracted increasing attention and a valuable alternative, especially if one thinks that when the reaction is done in stages, the oxidation of the aldehyde to the acid uses stoichiometric oxidants and that generate toxic waste. The system tested for oxidative esterification of benzaldehyde catalyzed by palladium (II) salts proved to be efficient for obtaining the esterification product without further reaction steps being required. Oxidative esterification of benzaldehyde was performed in the PdCl 2 /H 2 O 2 /MeOH system and preliminary results showed conversions of 60-70 %. The oxidation esterification reaction of benzaldehyde resulted in the formation of products catalyzed by palladium species (benzoic acid and benzyl alcohol), as well as catalysts by H + produced in situ (alkyl benzoate and acetal). Oxidation products were favored by increasing the molar ratio H 2 O 2 : benzaldehyde. Other palladium salts were also evaluated (Pd(CH 3 COO) 2, Pd(CF 3 COO) 2 and Pd(C 5 H 7 O 2 ) 2 ) but were less efficient than PdCl 2 . In the oxidation of the benzyl alcohol with hydrogen peroxide PdCl2 was the most efficient catalyst, it was found that among the solvents tested DMA improved the conversion. And the studied system was highly selective to obtain benzaldehyde.
