Caracterização de populações de soja de alto teor de proteína quanto à produtividade e à qualidade fisiológica das sementes | Characterization of high protein soybean populations regarding yield and physiological quality of the seeds

Visando determinar as conseqüências da seleção para alto teor protéico em sementes de soja sobre a qualidade fisiológica das mesmas e sobre a produção de grãos e verificar a correlação, e suas causas, entre estes caracteres, utilizaram-se oito populações, quatro RC 1F4 e quatro F4, sendo, cada uma, originária do cruzamento de um material portador de alto teor protéico na semente e uma variedade comercial. Procederam-se análises de variâncias e estimaram-se as médias, correlações, herdabilidades, ganhos por seleção direta, efeitos diretos e indiretos dos componentes primários da produção, sobre a mesma e de seus componentes e do teor protéico da semente, sobre a produção de proteína por planta. Pôde-se concluir que houve tendência da seleção para alto teor protéico influenciar negativamente a qualidade fisiológica das sementes, todavia, não se constituiu em fator limitante à seleção de famílias com alto teor de proteína e boa qualidade de sementes; foi possível, para a maioria das populações, manter as médias de produção de grãos e qualidade fisiológica das sementes estatisticamente iguais (p>0,05) às de seus respectivos progenitores recorrentes e obter, simultaneamente, teor protéico mais elevado que o destes progenitores; a população CD206-CR apresentou famílias com os maiores teores de proteína nas sementes e, embora tenha apresentado herdabilidade alta para esse caráter e intermediária para produção de grãos, a correlação genotípica negativa entre esses caracteres, presente nessa população, impossibilitou a sua seleção simultânea; em outras populações, foi possível selecionar famílias que apresentassem, simultaneamente, ganhos de seleção positivos quanto ao teor protéico na semente, mantendo-se a média de produção de grãos pelo menos igual à dos respectivos progenitores recorrentes; o caráter produção de proteína por planta seguiu as mesmas tendências de produção de grãos por planta, quanto às correlações; a população CD201-RC apresentou correlações positivas de teor protéico com produção de proteína por planta e produção de grãos; os três caracteres componentes da produção apresentaram efeitos diretos positivos, tanto sobre a produção de grãos quanto sobre a produção de proteína por planta; o efeito direto do teor de proteína na semente sobre a produção de proteína por planta foi positivo, todavia, baixo; e a produção de grãos por planta foi o principal determinante da produção de proteína por planta. Os resultados encontrados neste trabalho serão utilizados para dar continuidade à parte do Programa de Melhoramento de Soja do Bioagro/ UFV que visa, prioritariamente, a obtenção de linhagens de soja com alto teor de proteína na semente.

Aiming to determinate the consequences of the selection for high protein in soybean seeds, on the physiological quality of the seeds and on grain yield, and to verify the correlation, and it’s causes, among this traits, four RC 1F4 and four F4 populations were used, originated, each one, from the crossing of a genotype bearing high protein in the seed and a commercial variety. The variance analyses and estimated the means, correlations, heritabilities, gains by direct selection, direct and indirect effects of grain yield primary components on grain yield and the effects of it’s components and of protein content on protein yield per plant were accomplished. By the analysis of the results it was possible to conclude that there was a tendency of the selection for high protein, negatively influence the physiological seed quality, though, it didn't seem to be a hamper to the breeding looking for high protein content; it was possible, for the most of the populations, to maintain the average of grain yield and physiological seed quality statistically equal (p>0,05) to the ones of their respective recurrent parents and to obtain, simultaneously, protein content higher than of these parents; the population CD206-CR presented families bearing the highest protein content in the seeds and despite the presence of high heritability for protein content and intermediate for grain yield, the negative genetic correlation between them did not allow their simultaneous selection; it was possible, in other populations, to select families witch presented positive selection gains, regarding protein content in the seeds, while keeping the grain yield averages equal to the ones of the respective recurrent parents; the character protein yield per plant followed the same tendencies of grain yield per plant; the population CD201-RC presented positive correlations of protein content with protein and grain yields; the three grain yield component characters presented positive direct effects for both grain and protein yields; the direct effect of the protein content on protein yield was positive, though, small; and the grain yield per plant was the main factor contributing for protein yield per plant. The results found in this study will be used to continue the part of the Bioagro/ UFV Soybean Breeding Program that aims, primarily, to obtain soybean lines bearing high protein content in the seeds.
