Frente a los manejos no sustentables de la agricultura intensiva, es posible generar sistemas productivos siguiendo prácticas provenientes de la agroforestería. Buscando estudiar efectos de la diversidad en un cultivo agrícola, en el presente estudio se evaluó la influencia que tuvo Porlieria chilensis en suelos y en el estado hídrico de paltos en un huerto en la región de Valparaíso. Se analizaron dos tratamientos, palto parcelas puras (PPP, monocultivo de palto) y palto parcelas mixtas (PPM, palto con guayacanes integrados en su marco de plantación), evaluando área de sección transversal de tronco (ASTT), área foliar específica (AFE), densidad de peciolo (dP), potencial hídrico xilemático y conductancia estomática. A nivel de suelo, se tomaron muestras para análisis físicos y químicos, analizando el factor parcela bajo guayacán parcela mixta (GPM), PPM y PPP. Los resultados se analizaron mediante una matriz de correlaciones y un análisis de componentes principales. ASTT, AFE y dP no mostraron diferencias entre tratamientos, en tanto potencial hídrico y conductancia estomática presentaron diferencias en el factor exposición. En el suelo, la densidad aparente registró valores más bajos en GPM y PPM respecto a PPP. Los poros de aireación resultaron ser mayores en PPM que en PPP, mientras que GPM fue similar a PPM y PPP. Para los macronutrientes (N, P, K) los valores más altos los registró GPM, asociado a mayores niveles de materia orgánica del suelo. Se concluye que la presencia de P. chilensis en el huerto de paltos tiene efectos positivos en las propiedades físico-químicas del suelo.

Considering the unsustainable management of intensive agriculture, it is possible to generate productive systems following practices from agroforestry. With the aim to study the effects of diversity in an agricultural crop, the present study evaluated the influence that Porlieria chilensis (Guayacán) had on soils and on the water status of avocado trees in an orchard in the Valparaíso region. Two treatments were analyzed, avocado pure plots (PPP, avocado monoculture) and avocado mixed plots (PPM, avocado with P. chilensis integrated in their plantation framework), evaluating trunk cross-sectional area (ASTT), specific leaf area (AFE), density of petiole (dP), xylem water potential and stomatal conductance. At soil level, samples were taken for physical and chemical analysis, analyzing the plot factor under guayacán in mixed plot (GPM), PPM and PPP. The results were analyzed using a correlation matrix and principal component analysis. The ASTT, AFE and dP variables did not show differences between treatments, while water potential and stomatal conductance only showed differences in the exposure factor. In the soil, the bulk density registered lower values in GPM and PPM with respect to PPP. The aeration pores were higher in PPM than in PPP, while GPM did not present differences with respect to PPM and PPP. For macronutrients (N, P, K) the highest values were observed in GPM, associated with the highest levels of organic matter in the soil. It is concluded that the presence of P. chilensis in the avocado orchard has positive effects on the physical-chemical properties of the soil.
