Pig farming is the second most important sector in livestock farming after cattle breeding. Pig breeding has as its main goal the production of pig products, such as meat, lard, skin, blood, etc. To increase the number and performance of pigs, you need to know the characteristics of the main breeds of pigs, feeding rules, basics of keeping and breeding. The following selection methods in pig breeding are described: complex selection, index selection. The following areas of pig breeding, which have been successfully developed in our country for many decades, are considered: meat, meat and fat, lard, breeding. With the further development of the pig industry, as the second most important industry in animal husbandry, it is necessary to use intensive breeding technologies, which consist in the introduction of flow technologies, adequate feeding, and strict adherence to technological and zootechnical standards of husbandry. / Свиноводство – вторая по значимости отрасль в животноводстве после скотоводства. Разведение свиней имеет своей основной целью получение продукции свиноводства, такой как мясо, сало, кожа, кровь и прочее. Для увеличения численности и повышения продуктивности свиней нужно знать особенности основных пород свиней, правила кормления, основы содержания и разведения. Описаны следующие методы селекции в свиноводстве: комплексная селекция, индексная селекция. Рассмотрены следующие направления свиноводства, которые успешно осваиваются в нашей стране на протяжении многих десятилетий: мясное, мясосальное, сальное, племенное. При дальнейшем развитии отрасли свиноводство, как второй по значимости отрасли в животноводстве, необходимо применять интенсивные технологии разведения, которые заключаются во внедрении поточных технологий, полноценного кормления, строгом соблюдении технологических и зоотехнических норм содержания.
