The Kyrgyz Republic's afforestation activity by the private sector and its prospect

This article describes about afforestation of Kyrgyz since 2009, especially on the activities and outcomes of 'The Project for the Support for Joint Forest Management in Kyrgyz Republic'. And, the article explains the possibility and effectiveness of the Joint Forest Management as a local development tool. The Japanese Government started 'The Project for the Support for Joint Forest Management in Kyrgyz Republic' from 2009 based on the request from the Kyrgyz Government. The project had aimed to afforestation with the private sector at the beginning, and then the project result has reached its overall goal at the end of the project especially on the economically very successes fruits forestry. Forest offices, local residents, and village offices around the pilot sites have spontaneously started the Joint Forest Management. The forest offices and village offices aimed to expansion their afforestation areas more. On the Joint Forest Management agreement, local residents should start the afforestation activities when they inexpensively rent non-planted areas. The fruits can be harvested in a few years from the afforestation where the fruits trees were planted on the non-planted area. Because the local residents earned enough benefit from the orchards, the fruits solved the economic problem. Thus, the Joint Forest Management as the afforestation activities with the local economic development, the Joint Forest Management has widely extended in the low income areas of the Kyrgyz Republic now.
