Influence of environmental factors as day length, solar irradiation and night temperature on night-break lighting of the inhibition of flowering in chrysanthemum were investigated using the cultivars 'Jimba' and 'Arajin2'. Within the limit of short days in chrysanthemum, as the day length shorter, the leaf number increased in the same night-break-lighting. As the solar irradiation decreased, the leaf number increased in the same night-break-lighting. Also, in the low temperature conditions, flowering was inhibited by very low irradiation of night-break-lighting. However, it was observed that the internode elongation was reduced as irradiation decreased,. From the above results, effect of night-break-lighting on inhibiting flowering in chrysanthemum was varied by environmental factors, such as day length, solar irradiation, temperature and cropping season. In order to inhibit flowering by night-break-lighting, it is considered that strong irradiation is required under the optimum environmental conditions for flowering.
