We examined the influence of morphological abnormalities of beaks of beak-trimmed laying hens whose under mandibles extended beyond the upper mandibles on productivity in terms of weight, egg laying (egg production rate, egg weight), and feed intake ability. The body weight, the number of eggs, and the egg weight of hens having abnormal beaks were almost the same as those of the normal hens. However, comparing the feed intake ability with the food leftovers, the abnormal-beak hen group always left a larger amount of food than the normal beak hen-group. The chickens with abnormal beaks may devise methods of feeding in their growth.
