The global food security development and global grains and oilseeds market shifting to an emerging structure

“Food security” has gathered people's attention in the world with a focus on the global markets of food and agricultural commodities again and been emphasized as a significant global issue since the years of 2007-2008 as the food crisis, the period of skyrocketing resource and agricultural commodities prices. “Food security” is one of significant issues in the world and frequently comes up to many international conferences and domestic conventions on food, agriculture and rural development as a topic, however it has occasionally become a controversial issue when it has been expressed on its detailed agreement clearly among stakeholders including governments and international organizations with their consensus because, for instance, governments have sometimes a different viewpoint and position each other, especially between exporters and importers. In this study, we summarized historical activities and contestations of “Food security” along with its definition in the international conferences with recent discussions about it, for instance, nutrition within its definition, climate change impacts, changes of the undernourished people and SDGs as its targets, and examined to seek for the recent international tide of it in the world. Additionally this study expressed the global markets and trade of agricultural commodities, mainly grains and oilseeds, shifting to the new market structure with emerging exporters and importers in their global agricultural commodity markets since the years of 2007-08. In the global markets of grains and oilseeds emerging economies are gaining power besides conventional exporting countries. Therefore, we examined to explore the recent trade structure shifting to the new global market of the commodities with emerging and conventional players based on trade statistics of agricultural commodities in the study. In conclusion, the concept of “Food security” should accordingly change for various circumstances of the world and regions in the shifting market structure of the agricultural commodities as well.
