Survival of larval and juvenile Pacific bluefin tuna reared at a low density in small-volume tanks

We conducted an experiment to evaluate survival of larval and early juveniles of Pacific bluefin tuna (PBT) reared at a low density (one larva per liter) in small-volume tanks of 100 l and 200 l. At 22 days after hatching (DAH) the survival of fish cultured with strong aeration for 15 hours at night from 3 to 14 DAH was 8.0 ± 7.9% and 11.3 ± 4.3% for fish in 100-l and 200-l tanks, respectively (mean total length 20.8 mm, both groups). These results indicate that PBT might be successfully reared at low density using small-volume tanks of 200 l.
