Huella hídrica y de carbono en cultivos extensivos de regadío en el sur de Navarra | Huella hídrica y del carbono de rotaciones de cultivos extensivos de regadío el sur de Navarra

Uno de los mayores retos de la agricultura europea en los próximos años consiste en la reducción de las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero procedente de explotaciones agrarias y, al mismo tiempo, adaptarse al nuevo escenario que supone el cambio climático. Asimismo, se puede potenciar la rentabilidad económica y social de las explotaciones mediante la adopción de las oportunas prácticas agrarias sostenibles que reduzcan la huella de carbono de la agricultura y que potencien su efecto sumidero. Por otro lado es necesario analizar la sostenibilidad de la gestión de los cultivos extensivos de regadío desde el punto de vista de consumo del recurso hídrico ya que la huella hídrica es un indicador que proporciona un marco multidisciplinar y transparente que puede ser muy útil para mejorar el uso eficiente del agua. El objetivo de este Trabajo Fin de Grado es realizar un estudio sobre la huella hídrica y de carbono causadas por la explotación de cultivos extensivos de regadío en el sur de Navarra para calcular su impacto utilizando como referencia la gestión de las fincas de una deshidratadora de forrajes situada en la Ribera Baja. Para el cálculo de las huellas se tomaron los datos de referencia de distintas fincas de los municipios de Buñuel, Corella y Tudela donde se había implantado los cultivos extensivos en regadío de alfalfa, veza, maíz, trigo blando y cebada. Tras el cálculo de las huellas, su análisis y la interpretación de toda la información, en el último apartado se encuentran las conclusiones de este estudio para comprender el impacto real que supone la explotación de cultivos extensivos de regadío sirviendo para la mejora de la sostenibilidad de su gestión obteniendo que la alfalfa tiene la mayor huella hídrica y que el trigo es el cultivo que más CO2 fija de los estudiados. El estudio del impacto de los cultivos extensivos en regadío en las zonas agrícolas más importantes debe potenciarse ya que son cultivos muy significativos y evaluar cada explotación es una buena herramienta para la mejora de su sostenibilidad.

One of the biggest challenges for European agriculture in the following years lies in the reduction of the greenhouse emissions coming from farms, as well as the adaptation to the new scenario that climate change involves. Additionally, the economical and social profitability of the farms can be strengthened by the adoption of the convenient sustainable agricultural practices which reduce the carbon footprint of the agriculture and strength their sink effect. On the other hand, analyzing the sustainability of the management of extensive farming is needed from a point of view of the consumption of water resource as the water footprint is an indicator that provides a multidisciplinary and transparent framework which can be very useful to improve the efficient water use. The aim of this Work Order Degree is to carry out a study about the water and carbon footprints caused by the exploitation of extensive corps of irrigated lands in the south of Navarra in order to calculate their impact by using the management of the farms from a forage dehydration plant located in Ribera Baja. In order to calculate the footprints, the reference data of different farms from the towns of Buñuel, Corella and Tudela where extensive crops in irrigation in alfalfa, vetch, corn, common wheat and barley had been introduced, were taken. After the calculation of the footprints, their analysis and the interpretation of the whole information, in the last section are the conclusions of this study in order to understand the real impact that the exploitation of extensive crops involves, being useful to the improvement of the sustainability of their management, obtaining that the alfalfa has the best water footprint and that the wheat is the farming that more CO2 fixes of all the studied. The study of the impact of the extensive crops in irrigation on the most important agricultural areas must be strengthen as they are very significant crops, and the evaluation of each farm is a good tool for the improvement of their sustainability.
