Productive Evaluation of Sows Supplemented with Zinc in the Last Third of Gestation | Evaluación productiva de cerdas vientre suplementadas con zinc en el último tercio de gestación

Improving productivity in swine industry requires an increase in the number and weight of piglets born alive per sow, the best performance of the mother and the increase in the number of piglets at weaning. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of sow diets based on sorghum and soybeans fortified with organic zinc, during the last third of gestation. Eighteen sows were used in the commercial breed ing Yorkshire, Hampshire, Duroc and Landrace second and third birth, randomly distributed into three groups of six animals. In the last third of gestation, Availa ® zinc Zinpro Zinc 100 per 100 kg of food. The treat ments were control without addition of zinc and low dose (18.2) and high dose (36.3) g of zinc supplement. Diets were isoproteic (13.8% CP) and isocaloric (3.607 Mcal Em/kg MS y 0.66% Lis). We recorded the number and weight of piglets at birth and litter weight, this prac tice was repeated at weaning. The data were analyzed in a completely randomized design with equal number of repetitions. The number and weight of piglets at birth and at weaning was not affected by dietary zinc supplementation (p≥0.05), while litter weight at weaning showed significant differences (p≤0.038). The largest litter weight at weaning (66.02 kg) was obtained with the low dose of the supplement. Weight gain per piglet and mortality were not affected by the addition of zinc.  However, a higher number of piglets at birth and at weaning were ob served, and better birth weight in females supplemented with low dose of zinc as well as in the litter weight at weaning. We conclude that the production of the females belly increases with supplementing the diet with 18.2 g of zinc supplement per 100 kg of food.

El mejoramiento de la productividad en industria porcina requiere aumen to en el número y peso de lechones nacidos vivos por cerda, del mejor comportamiento de la madre y del incremento del número de lechones al destete. El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar el efecto de dietas para cerdas, basadas en sorgo y soya, enriquecidas con zinc orgánico, durante el último tercio de la gestación. Se utilizaron 18 cerdas de la cruza comercial Yorkshire, Hampshire, Duroc y Landrace, de segundo y tercer parto, distribuidas al azar en tres grupos de seis animales. En el último tercio de gestación, se adicionó a la dieta, zinc Availa®Zinc 100 de Zinpro por cada 100 kg de alimento. Los tratamientos fueron: testigo sin adición de zinc y dosis baja (18.2 g) y dosis alta (36.3 g) de suplemento de zinc. Las dietas fueron isoproteicas (13.8 % PC) e isoenergéticas (3.607 Mcal Em/kg MS y 0.66% Lis). Se registró el número y peso de lechones al nacer, y el peso de la camada; esta práctica se repitió al destete. Los datos se anali zaron en un diseño completamente al azar con igual número de repeticio nes. El número y peso de lechones al nacer y al destete no fue afectado por la suplementación de zinc a dieta (p≥0.05), mientras que el peso de la camada al destete presentó diferencias (p≤0.038). El mayor peso de la camada al destete (66.02 kg) se obtuvo con la dosis baja del suplemento.  La ganancia de peso y la mortalidad por lechón no fueron afectadas por la adición de zinc. Sin embargo, se observó un mayor número de lechones al nacer y al destete, y mejor peso al nacer, en las hembras suplementadas con la dosis baja de zinc, así como en el peso de la camada al destete. Se concluye que la producción de las hembras vientre aumenta al suplemen tar la dieta con 18.2 g del suplemento de zinc por cada 100 kg de alimento.
