Cultivo de la microalga Porphyridium cruentum en agua proveniente del cultivo de Litopenaeus vannamei para la remoción de compuestos nitrogenados y fosfatos | Culture of the microalgae Porphyridium cruentum in water from the culture of Litopenaeus vannamei for the removal of nitrogenous compounds and phosphates

Para minimizar los impactos generados por los efluentes de la camaronicultura, se destaca la implementación de cultivos accesorios como las microalgas. Estas, pueden aprovechar los nutrientes de los efluentes produciendo un efecto de biorremediación y, a su vez, generar compuestos de interés; en este sentido, se evaluó la eficiencia de remoción de nutrientes y la biomasa producida por la microalga Porphyridium cruentum cultivada en concentraciones de 75% y 100% de agua del efluente proveniente del cultivo del camarón blanco Litopenaeus vannamei. Para dicho efecto, se definieron tres tratamientos con tres réplicas, un tratamiento control con medio “f/2” y los tratamientos con efluente C75 (75%) y C100 (100%). Se aplicó ANOVA para evaluar la biomasa celular, el pigmento ficoeritrina, el exopolisacárido sulfatado (EPS) y la remoción de nutrientes. La densidad celular promedio fue de 2.79 x 106 cél ml-1 . Al final del cultivo, se observó un peso seco total (PST) promedio de 881 µg ml-1 y 322 pg cél-1 , y un peso orgánico (PO) promedio de 387 µg ml-1 y 141 pg cél-1 . El mayor contenido de ficoeritrina fue en los cultivos con el medio “f/2” (14.1 µg ml -1 y 12 pg cél), además, se observó una producción promedio de EPS por encima de 3 mg ml-1 . Con respecto a la eficiencia de remoción de nitrógeno amoniacal total (NAT), se encontró que los tratamientos C100 y C75 (con 72% y 73% de remoción, respectivamente) tuvieron una mayor (p<0.05) remoción que “f/2”, con la concentración más alta de este nutriente en C100 (0.06 mg L-1 ) (p<0.05). Con respecto a la remoción de nitratos, el medio “f/2” removió hasta un 94%, mientras que los tratamientos C75 y C100 removieron un 88% y 87%, respectivamente. Con respecto a los nitritos, la remoción fue del 100% en el tratamiento “f/2” y del 54% y 36% en los tratamientos C75 y C100 respectivamente, encontrándose una concentración significativamente mayor en C75 y C100 (0.39 mg L-1 en promedio). La eficiencia de remoción de fosfatos fue del 100% en todos los tratamientos. Por lo que P. cruentum es adecuada para biorremediar los efluentes provenientes del cultivo de camarón.

To minimize the impacts generated by shrimp farming effluents, the implementation of accessory crops such as microalgae stands out. These can utilize the nutrients in the effluents, producing a bioremediation effect and, in turn, generating compounds of interest; In this sense, the efficiency of nutrient removal and the biomass produced by the microalga Porphyridium cruentum cultivated in concentrations of 75% and 100% of the effluent from the culture of white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei were evaluated. For this purpose, three treatments with three replicates were defined, a control treatment with "f/2" media (f/2) and the treatments with effluent C75 (75%) and C100 (100%). ANOVA was applied to evaluate cell biomass, exopolysaccharide (EPS), phycoerythrin, and nutrient removal, was performed by a one-way ANOVA. The mean biomass obtained from P. cruentum was 2.79 x 106 cells ml-1 on day 10 of the culture. At the end of the culture, an average total dry weight (TDW) of 881 µg ml-1 and 322 pg cell-1 was observed, and an average organic weight (OW) of 387 µg ml-1 and 141 pg cell-1. The highest content of phycoerythrin was in the cultures with the "f/2" medium (14.1 µg ml-1 and 12 pg cell-1), in addition, an average EPS production above 3 mg ml-1 was observed. Regarding the removal efficiency of total ammonia nitrogen (TAN), it was found that the C100 and C75 treatments (with 72% and 73% removal, respectively) had a higher (p<0.05) nutrient removal than “f/2”, with the higher concentration of TAN found in C100 (0.06 mg L-1). Regarding the removal of nitrates, the "f/2" media removed up to 94%, while the C75 and C100 treatments removed 88% and 87%, respectively. Regarding nitrites, the removal was 100% in the "f/2" treatment and 54% and 36% in the C75 and C100 treatments, respectively, finding a significantly higher concentration in C75 and C100 (0.39 mg L-1 on average). The phosphate removal efficiency was 100% in all treatments. Therefore, P. cruentum is suitable bioremediation of effluents from shrimp farming.
