Climate adaptive action plans to manage heat stress in Indian cities : final technical report
2021
Integrated Research and Action for Development
The project designed spatially differentiated (ward level) and gender-sensitive Heat Stress Action Plans (HSAPs) for the cities of Delhi, Bhubaneswar and Rajkot. The project methodologies for developing evidence-based HSAPs used spatial and temporal climatological data to identify urban heat islands. City/ state level public institutions were trained to develop and sustain the HSAPs, with specialized training provided to medical practitioners, public health professionals, and frontline health workers. Awareness workshops were also conducted for street level workers. The HSAPs provide a framework for implementation, coordination, and evaluation of extreme heat response activities to mitigate impacts.
