The Pattern of Antimicrobial Use in Independent Broiler Farms in Bogor District

Theuse of antimicrobials can lead to antimicrobial resistance both in the livestock sector and in human health. This study aims to describe and measure the administration of antimicrobials in broiler chickens and to see the association between antimicrobial use and mortality. The study was conducted from 2019 to 2022, in 19 independent broiler farms in Bogor District, with a total of 89 production cycles. The data that were collected consisted of the type of antimicrobial and the frequency of antimicrobial treatment and then were analyzed using the calculation of used daily dose (UDD) and frequency of treatment (TF). The association between antimicrobial use and mortality was analyzed using linear regression. Giving antimicrobials was based on the advice of the owner (15.8%), the technical service/TS (36.8%), and field extension workers/PPL (47.4%). Among them, only 1 person is a veterinarian (5.3%). The average daily of frequency of antimicrobials treatment (TFUDD) was 10.5 times. Of all the antimicrobials used, 60.5% were included in the highest priority critically important antimicrobials (HPCIA). The main purpose of giving antimicrobials is for prevention (82.7%) and the frequency of antimicrobials treatment is highest in the first week to decrease mortality. There was no significant association between frequency of antimicrobials treatment and mortality in the first week of cycle (p>0.05). Antimicrobials used, mostly there was no veterinary consultation. Most of the frequency of antimicrobials treatment from the HPCIA category and the purpose of their use is for prevention. However, high or low antimicrobials administration in the first week was not associated with a reduction in mortality
