اظهر المزيد [+] اقل [-]The human gut microbiome plays a key role in human health . The advent of the omics-based technologies has opened a new scenario in the comprehension of the gut ecosystem. In particular, the study of metabolites related to the gut microbiota can offer deep insights into gut microbial functional capacity and its impact on the host in health and disease. In this context, Metabolomics has become a powerful approach to increase our understanding of potentially important metabolites that derive from the gut microbiota that may impact host physiology. Metabolomics is con cerned with the study of the global changes in the metabolites present within biological systems. lt has matured to a frequent available technology in many fields of application, largely driven by improved mass spectrometry with increased sensitivity and metabolite coverage. This keynote aims at providing an introduction to the metabolomics workflow for studying complex interrelationships between intestinal microbiota and their human host, with particular focus on strengths and weaknesses of using mass spectrometry-based analytical platforms. In this context, recent knowledge in the understanding o( the role of gut microbiota as an active participant in the development of atherosclerosis and its adverse complications of cardiovascular disease will be summarized.
