Luis Lozano Rey (1879-1958) worked at the National Museum of Natural Sciences (MNCN, Madrid, Spain) for 46 years, from his appointment as Chief of the Osteozoology Section until his death. One of his greatest achievements while at the Museum was the establishment of a multidisciplinary group of experts that combined the necesary scientific, technical and artistic efforts to gather and disseminate knowledge of fish species present in all habitats. With his perseverance and this enthusiastic team, he managed to crown his career with his monumental work "Ictiologia Iberica", wich is comprised of five volumes (1928/1960). His different lines of ichthyological and fisheries research were continued by his son Fernando Lozano Cabo (1916-1980) at the MNCN Laboratory of Ichthyology for about twenty years, where he worked successively as an intern, assistant, assistant professor and curator (1940/1970).
