Interpretation and modeling of cumulative chlordecone infiltration fluxes in banana plantation soils: use of adsorbed quantities on a resin bed

اظهر المزيد [+] اقل [-]إنجليزي. Chlordecone is a pesticide used in the French West Indies from 1972 to 1992 to control the weevil, a parasite of banana plants. However, the persistence of this molecule in groundwater and soils led to the banning of its use in France in 1993. Studying the displacement of this pesticide is now a major issue knowing the damage caused by this molecule on human health and ecosystems (A. Durimel et al., 2013). In this context, we will try to interpret and model the infiltration flows of chlordecone through 3 banana plantation soils, an andosol, a nitisol and a ferralsol. For this purpose, absorbent resins were buried for 21 months under the tillage horizons of these 3 soils. The method used consists on the one hand in establishing a mass balance in order to quantify what proportion of chlordecone has been accumulated on the resin, in comparison with the quantity remaining in the soil. Then, the 3 soil profiles were modeled in order to obtain theoretical concentration values in the soil and the resin. Finally, these results were compared with the values obtained by the in situ samples in order to highlight the processes involved. The mass balance allowed to calculate an adsorption of 1.11% of chlordecone on the resin in the andosol, as well as 18.33% and 14.83% for the nitisol and ferralsol respectively. However, the modeling was not successful, but convection and diffusion movements could be highlighted. New modeling attempts are thus to be carried out in order to highlight more precisely the processes involved in the movement of the pesticide.
