Preferencje siedliskowe dwóch ekotypów dostojki eunomii Boloria eunomia w północno-wschodniej Polsce | Habitat preferences of two ecotypes of the bog fritillary Boloria eunomia in north-eastern Poland

Celem badań było ustalenie preferencji siedliskowych dwóch ekotypów dostojki eunomii Boloria eunomia (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae) w północno-wschodniej Polsce. Region ten jest ważny na tle całego zasięgu tego borealno-górskiego gatunku motyla dziennego z uwagi na obecność jego różnych linii ewolucyjnych. W badaniach skoncentrowano się na Puszczy Knyszyńskiej, ze względu na współwystępowanie ekotypu wysokotorfowiskowego i łąkowego. Istotnym czynnikiem oddziałującym na zagęszczenie imagines pierwszej formy było pokrycie terenu wyższymi drzewami, natomiast drugiej – wielkość zasobów rdestu wężownika Persicaria bistorta. Roślina ta okazała się jedynym źródłem pokarmu dla osobników dorosłych tego ekotypu. Dla odmiany, drugi ekotyp wykorzystywał różne źródła pokarmu, jednak głównie nektar kwiatów bagna zwyczajnego Rhododendron tomentosum, tj. gatunku nie będącego rośliną żywicielską larw. W warunkach laboratoryjnych larwy formy łąkowej rozwijały się wyłącznie na rdeście wężowniku. Z kolei larwy formy wysokotorfowiskowej rozwijały się na trzech gatunkach Ericaceae (żurawinie błotnej Vaccinium oxycoccus, borówce bagiennej V. uliginosum, modrzewnicy zwyczajnej Andromeda polifolia), ale również na rdeście wężowniku, tj. roślinie żywicielskiej właściwej dla odmiennego ekotypu. Badania fauny motyli dziennych wykazały duży udział generalistów w miejscach występowania dostojki eunomii.

The aim of the studies was to determine the habitat preferences of two ecotypes of the bog fritillary B. eunomia (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae) in north-eastern Poland. The region is important within the entire range of this boreo-montane species in view of the presence of its different evolutionary lines. The study was focused on the Knyszyn Forest due to the co-occurrence of the bog and the meadow ecotype. The coverage of the area with taller trees and the amount of resources of the common bistort Persicaria bistorta were the significant factors affecting the abundance of imagoes of the bog and the meadow form respectively. Bistort was shown to be the only source of food for adults of the latter form. In contrast, the bog ecotype used different food sources, but mainly the nectar of flowers of the marsh Labrador tea Rhododendron tomentosum, a species that is not a host plant of the larvae. Under laboratory conditions, the larvae of the meadow form developed exclusively on P. bistorta. On the other hand, the larvae of the bog form developed on three Ericaceae species (small cranberry Vaccinium oxycoccus, bog bilberry Vaccinium uliginosum and bog rosemary Andromeda polifolia) as well as on P. bistorta, i.e. the host plant species relevant to the other ecotype. Studies on fauna of butterflies revealed a large proportion of generalists in sites of the occurrence of B. eunomia.
