Bamboo is a major forest resource that has various uses. Bamboos that spread beyond their intended locations require management and stem injections of glyphosate isopropylamine are a chemical control method used to prevent the spread of these bamboos. In this study, we investigated bamboo shoot residues after stem injection with glyphosate isopropylamine to provide information for future registration trials. In Phyllostachys pubescens, glyphosate isopropylamine was detected in sprouted bamboo shoots and roots after the stem had been injected in December (quiescent period) and March (growing period). Because the daily intake standard for glyphosate from bamboo shoots has not yet been established, if stems are injected with glyphosate isopropylamine for control, collecting bamboo shoots from the relevant bamboo forests must be prohibited.
