Esta investigación analiza el papel del movimiento estudiantil en el estallido social de 2021 en Colombia desde la teoría de la acción colectiva. El documento explora cómo incidió dicho movimiento, articulando demandas que influyeron en la transformación y reforma del ESMAD(Escuadrón Móvil Antidisturbios). A partir de las contribuciones teóricas de Sidney Tarrow, Alberto Melucci, Mancur Olson y Charle Tilly, el estudio contempla este caso desde categorías analíticas como las oportunidades políticas, los marcos de acción colectiva, las solidaridades compartidas y la construcción de significados. Finalmente, la investigación examina las estrategias, repertorios y formas organizativas del movimiento estudiantil. Los hallazgos sugieren que el movimiento estudiantil desempeñó un papel central en la redefinición de la legitimidad de la protesta y en la generación de presión pública que condujo a la reestructuración del ESMAD en la actual Unidad de Diálogo y Mantenimiento del Orden (UNDMO).

This research analyzes the role of the student movement in Colombia’s 2021 social uprising from the perspective of collective action theory. The document explores how students emerged as key agents of social change articulating demands that challenged and influenced the ESMAD (Escuadrón Móvil Antidisturbios) transformation. Drawing on theoretical contributions from Sidney Tarrow, Alberto Melucci, and Mancur Olson, the study contemplates this case from the point of view of analytical categories such as political opportunities, collective action frames, shared solidarities, and meaning making. Finally, the research examines the student movement’s strategies, repertoires, and organizational forms. The findings suggest that the student movement played a central role in redefining the legitimacy of protest and shaping public pressure that led to the restructuring of ESMAD into the Dialogue and Order Maintenance Unit (UNDMO).
