Vegetable farming relies on recurring soil preparation, organic fertilizers and minimal soil coverage, which can result in decreased soil fertility, reduced self-sufficiency, and harmed water quality. The ban of herbicides necessitates alternative weed control methods. SEFerSol is a comparative analysis of two innovative cultivation systems, the first emphasizing the consistent use of green manure without organic fertilizers, while the second involves minimal soil disturbance and continuous ground cover, against a reference system. Our findings indicate that the first system improves self-sufficiency and water quality while the second system displays enhanced fertility and weed management but suffers from lower water quality and decreased self-sufficiency.
