The results of the study revealed the constitutive genetic mechanisms by which drought stress manifests in the early growth phase of native wheat. In genotypes L101/Od.167 and LM/Od.162/M79, tolerance was attested only for the characters Sprouting and Root length. Moldova 11 showed particular tolerance plasticity for Root length and Stem length. Plant vigor index established the lowest percentage reduction of the integral trait in the targeted genotypes. Cluster analysis (Ward`s method) based on tolerance index distributed the interaction variants into 2 clusters, genotypes L101/Od.167, LM/Od.162/M79 and Moldova 11 showed improved tolerance performance under all water restriction conditions at the optimum temperature of 22o C. Genotype L101/BT16-04 showed the highest reduction in tolerance index (-14.3), forming a separate cluster with the highest susceptibility to the targeted water restriction.
