The paper is about the history of maize breeding and seed production in the former institute "Porumbeni" since 1974 to the present. The main registered hybrids with maturity index FAO 300-450 cultivated in Moldova and early hybrids exported in northern regions are presented here. The succession of institute directors, heads of breeding and seed production teams, elite inbred lines created by former breeders and used in modern commercial hybrids are also nominated.
