Influence of the adaptation to the grazing environment on the behavior of ovine integrated to citrus plantations | Influencia de la adaptación al ambiente de pastoreo en la conducta de ovinos integrados a plantaciones citrícolas

إنجليزي. The presence of the legume Teramnus labialis SW cv. dark seed in the soil cover of citric plantations seems to reduce ovine browsing to the branches of the fruit-bearing significantly. However, this behavior could have been determined by previous adaptation of the animals to the consumption of this species, and palatability of the legume. In the present trial, we determined the influence of adaptation time to the grazing environment in the ovine behavior during the grazing of the cover in the citric plantation. The experiment was carried out during a period of seven weeks, in 2 ha of Citrus sinensis (L) Osbeck cv. Valencia Late (Sweet Orange tree). It was used a complete randomized design with 3 treatments and 6 repetitions (ovine) for each of the following treatments: 1, and 2: twenty one, and fifteen days of adaptation to the grazing environment, respectively, 3: without adaptation to the environment. We evaluated the botanical composition of the covers as well as the browsing and grazing behavior of ovine. We did not found effect of the ovine adaptation to the environment on its grazing behavior. Animal browsing was similar in all treatments, with values means around 0,001 browsing per animal per grazing hour, and duration of 10 seconds per browsing. It was also evident in all treatments a typical grazing behavior, where the highest percentage of time was dedicated to graze- move, under the citrus tree canopy and although the animal moved around the entire area in search of food, more time was spent in the front and central sections of the paddock.

La presencia de la leguminosa Teramnus labialis SW cv. semilla oscura, en la cobertura de los cítricos redujo de forma significativa el ramoneo de los ovinos a las ramas del frutal; sin embargo, este comportamiento pudo ser determinado tanto por la adaptación previa que tuvieron los animales al consumo de esta especie, como a su alta palatabilidad. En el presente ensayo se determinó la influencia del tiempo de adaptación al ambiente de pastoreo sobre la conducta manifestada por los ovinos, durante el pastoreo de las coberturas citrícolas. El experimento se realizó durante un periodo de siete semanas, en dos ha de Citrus sinensis (L) Osbeck cv. Valencia late (Naranjo dulce), utilizándose un diseño completamente aleatorizado, con tres tratamientos y seis réplicas (ovinos) por cada uno de los siguientes tratamientos: 1 y 2: veintiuno y quince días de adaptación al ambiente de pastoreo, respectivamente, y 3: sin adaptación al ambiente de pastoreo. Se evaluaron la cobertura del área de pastoreo, así como la conducta de los ovinos al ramoneo y pastoreo en estas plantaciones. Los resultados indican que la adaptación no afectó la conducta de pastoreo de los animales, contabilizándose un valor promedio de ramoneo (ramoneos por hora) de 0,001, con una duración de 10 segundos cada uno en todos los tratamientos. Se observaron las conductas típicas de comportamiento de los ovinos en estas zonas de pastoreo, donde el mayor tiempo de las actividades consistió en pastoreo- traslado con desplazamientos debajo de las copas de los frutales y aunque los animales se desplazaron por toda el área del cuartón en busca de su alimento permanecieron el mayor tiempo en las zonas central y anterior del mismo.
